Man Arrested After Allegedly Crashing Through Jennifer Aniston’s Front Gate in Bel Air

The suspect, reportedly in his late 40s, was booked for felony vandalism after barreling through Aniston’s gate while she was home; charges are still pending.

A man has been arrested and booked for felony vandalism after allegedly crashing a vehicle through the front gate of Jennifer Aniston’s Bel Air estate while the actress was reportedly home.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers responded to a 911 call on Monday afternoon about a burglary suspect who drove a car through the gates of a private residence on the 900 block of Airole Way, a quiet, upscale enclave on L.A.’s Westside. Though the LAPD did not confirm the homeowner’s identity per department policy, property records reviewed by PEOPLE confirm the home belongs to Friends and The Morning Show star Jennifer Aniston.

The suspect, identified as 48-year-old Jimmy Wayne Carwyle, was detained at the scene by private security personnel until police arrived. Authorities say he sustained only minor injuries during the incident and was taken into custody without further incident. Jail records obtained by Entertainment Weekly list Carwyle’s age as 48, although both PEOPLE and local ABC affiliate KABC reported earlier estimates from witnesses describing him as “around 70.”

At this time, Carwyle has not been formally charged. The LAPD has stated that the case will be submitted to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office later this week for review and determination of potential charges. Police also noted that the suspect has a minor criminal record, but there is no clear evidence at this time suggesting he deliberately targeted Aniston.

Representatives for Aniston have not yet issued a statement regarding the incident.

The Emmy-winning actress purchased the sprawling Bel Air property in 2011. In a 2018 interview with Architectural Digest, Aniston described the home’s original design as having a “very dramatic entry sequence” that initially didn’t align with her personal taste. However, she said she was immediately drawn to the property’s potential and collaborated with renowned interior designer Stephen Shadley to transform the space into a warm, flowing sanctuary.

“If I wasn’t an actress, I’d want to be a designer,” Aniston said at the time. “Every corner you turn, you have an experience. Everywhere you look, you get a vista. We worked very hard to get that flow right.”

As of Tuesday morning, no injuries beyond the suspect’s minor scrapes have been reported, and the extent of damage to Aniston’s property remains unclear.
