The pop icon turned a technical hiccup into a heartfelt connection with fans during her electrifying Weekend 2 performance at Coachella 2025.
Lady Gaga’s return to the Coachella stage may have started with a glitch, but it ended with a powerful reminder of her talent and authenticity. The Grammy and Oscar-winning superstar headlined the second weekend of Coachella 2025 on Friday night, delivering a spectacular, high-energy set despite an early technical hiccup that temporarily silenced her microphone.
The issue occurred during her opening number, “Abracadabra,” a standout track from her latest album Mayhem. Dressed in an enormous red hoop skirt that opened dramatically to reveal a cage of backup dancers, Gaga kicked off the show with theatrical flair. But as she began to sing the first verse, her vocal feed intermittently cut out, leaving only the instrumental track audible to the crowd in Indio, California.
As the glitch worsened, and her mic fully failed while she descended through the center of her elaborate costume, a crew member quickly handed her a handheld mic. That too experienced a delay in functionality. Undeterred, Gaga powered through the moment with grace, picking up the performance once the microphone was back on, finishing the song without missing a beat.
Later in the show, as she transitioned to a piano ballad rendition of “Shallow”—the beloved track from A Star Is Born—Gaga addressed the technical issue with heartfelt candor.
“Thank you so much for singing and dancing all night long,” she told the audience. “I’m sorry my mic was broken for a second. At least you know I sing live. And I guess all we can do is our best, right? I’m definitely giving you my best. I love you so much.”
Fans erupted in applause, appreciating the pop icon’s raw honesty and live vocals—an increasingly rare trait in large-scale festival performances.
Gaga’s gothic and visually extravagant set included fresh hits from Mayhem, including “Disease,” “Killah,” “Die With a Smile,” “How Bad Do You Want Me,” and “Vanish Into You.” She also delighted long-time fans with iconic tracks like “Poker Face,” “Born This Way,” “Alejandro,” and “Paparazzi.”
The 2025 festival marks Gaga’s second time headlining Coachella—her first appearance was in 2017, just months after her explosive Super Bowl halftime show. This year’s Coachella lineup also boasts fellow headliners Travis Scott, Green Day, and Post Malone, with standout performances from Megan Thee Stallion, Charli XCX, Missy Elliott, T-Pain, and more.
Following her unforgettable Coachella appearance and recent hosting gig on Saturday Night Live, Lady Gaga is set to embark on a highly anticipated world tour in support of Mayhem, which dropped on March 7. The tour will span more than 50 shows across 19 cities through 2025, solidifying Gaga’s place as one of the most dynamic performers of her generation.
Even in the face of technical adversity, Gaga reminded us all why she remains the reigning queen of pop: she sings live, she gives her all, and she never stops performing.
