Eiza González Pranks James Marsden with Fake Car Crash: ‘You’re Gonna Give Me a Heart Attack!’A hilarious phone call leaves Marsden speechless as González takes their friendship to the ultimate test
Eiza González proved she’s a master of mischief when she pulled off an epic prank on her longtime friend and fellow actor James Marsden. As part of a recent Elle video challenge, González was tasked with making prank calls to some of her closest friends—and Marsden became one of her unsuspecting victims.
The Ash actress wasted no time launching into her elaborate deception, nervously telling Marsden that she had just crashed into a friend’s car and fled the scene. Clearly taken aback, the Paradise star scrambled to offer advice.
“Oh, well. I think… Uh, here’s what I think,” Marsden stammered. “I think you just… We call him and say, ‘Hey, I did this and totally blacked out and panicked and I’m so sorry.’” As González clutched her chest in fake distress, Marsden reassured her, saying, “I think the sooner you do that, the better. He’ll totally understand and know that it’s coming from you.”
But González wasn’t done yet. She pressed further, asking Marsden if she could simply avoid telling her friend the truth altogether. As he hesitated, she doubled down: “James, James, it was so bad. Like, I totaled the car.”
Trying to find a silver lining, Marsden pointed out that at least she hit a friend’s car rather than a stranger’s, minimizing the risk of legal trouble. But González saw an opportunity to keep the joke going. “Do you think he’s gonna sue me?” she asked in feigned panic. “Do you think he’s gonna ask me to pay for it?”
Marsden, still unaware he was being pranked, attempted to calm her down. “Someone will have to pay for the damages,” he reasoned. That’s when González went in for the kill: “Can you pay for it for me?”

Her request left Marsden utterly dumbfounded. “Um… I think you’re just gonna have to… I mean, one of your insurance companies will figure it out,” he managed to say, clearly trying to sidestep the unexpected financial plea.
Sensing his growing unease, González took things even further, asking him to split the costs with her. She had to mute herself to keep from laughing as Marsden spiraled into confusion. “Oh my God, what?” he exclaimed. “Are you f—ing with me? What the f—? What the hell?”
Finally, unable to keep the charade up any longer, González burst into laughter and revealed that it was all a prank. Marsden let out an exasperated groan. “I started to go off the rails when you said, ‘You think you’ll pay half of it with me?’” he admitted. “You’re gonna give me a f—ing heart attack! I’m like, what the hell. What if I had said, ‘Do not bring it up, baby, just hit the road!’”
While Marsden was left reeling from the unexpected stress, González made it clear he could get his revenge. “You can get payback,” she offered. Marsden, now fully in on the joke, was quick to accept. “Ooh,” he said with a smirk. “My creative juices are already spinning.”
One thing is certain—Marsden should be on high alert, because with González’s prankster skills, he may just find himself on the receiving end of another elaborate joke.
