Comedian Calls Out Unwanted “Family Reunion” on Podcast, Criticizes Mandel’s Ratings Stunt
Bill Burr isn’t one to hold back—and his latest target is none other than Howie Mandel. The comedian recently admitted that he was genuinely “pissed” after Mandel orchestrated a surprise on-air meeting between Burr and Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan, who had previously suggested they might be half-brothers.
During an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, Burr reflected on the incident, calling Mandel a “Hollywood whore” who “doesn’t care what happens.” The ambush took place on Howie Mandel Does Stuff, where Corgan unexpectedly joined the conversation, prompting an awkward, tension-filled interaction.
A Surprise “Family Reunion” Gone Wrong
The origins of the situation trace back to a November episode of Mandel’s podcast, where Corgan revealed that his stepmother once speculated Burr could be one of his father’s children from his days as a traveling musician. Seizing the opportunity for a viral moment, Mandel orchestrated a surprise introduction when Burr appeared on the show, hoping for an emotional “family reunion.”
But Burr was far from pleased. “Billy’s fine. That’s the first time I ever met him and it was fine or whatever, but I did not appreciate what Howie did,” he said. He also made it clear that he generally avoids discussing personal aspects of his life, making the moment even more uncomfortable.

Burr and Corgan Team Up Against Mandel
From the moment Corgan entered the studio, Burr didn’t hide his frustration, immediately calling Mandel an “a–hole.” When Corgan insisted that Mandel had assured him Burr was “cool” with the surprise, the comedian wasn’t surprised. “That’s what he does,” Burr quipped.
Rather than sharing a heartfelt moment, Burr and Corgan quickly turned their frustration toward Mandel. Burr accused him of setting up the encounter “for ratings,” sarcastically questioning, “What was supposed to happen? Are we going to go play catch? We’re both in our 50s.”
Corgan chimed in, calling it “some Dr. Phil s—,” while Burr doubled down, telling Mandel, “I think we’re kind of on the same page in thinking you’re kind of a d— right now.”
Even Mandel, sensing the tension, admitted, “This is just uncomfortable.”
Finding Common Ground—At Mandel’s Expense
Eventually, Mandel left the room to give the two some privacy—though the cameras, of course, continued rolling. With the attention off Mandel, Burr and Corgan shared insights about their alleged father, discussing details of his life and past relationships.
“At some point, it did become funny to me that he did have multiple families. There was something wild about that,” Burr reflected. “I’m kind of forgetting that we’re on a podcast.”
But even during their heart-to-heart, the conversation circled back to Mandel.
“At least we broke the cycle,” Burr joked as the episode wrapped. “At least we’re not on some awful network show judging plate spinners, or whatever the f— Howie’s career has become.”
While the unexpected reunion may not have been the touching moment Mandel envisioned, it certainly made for one of the most talked-about podcast episodes in recent memory. And for Burr, it was just another day of telling it like it is.
