Prosecutors uncover disturbing messages from Diddy to Cassie Ventura and others, as they present a case of a “long-standing pattern of abuse.”
In a shocking revelation during a court hearing on September 18, prosecutors read out alleged text messages sent by Sean “Diddy” Combs to his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura and other women, accusing the rapper of having a long history of abusive behavior. The court session marked a pivotal moment in the ongoing legal case against the music mogul, now facing multiple serious charges.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Emily A. Johnson shared disturbing details of a 2016 incident involving Combs and Ventura, in which surveillance footage captured Combs violently assaulting Ventura in a hotel room. Following the assault, prosecutors allege, Combs sent a frantic message to Ventura:
“Call me. The cops are here. I’ve got six kids. Yo, please call. I’m surrounded. You gonna abandon me all alone?”
Prosecutors clarified that no police had been present when the message was sent, seemingly casting doubt on the credibility of Combs’ statement. Ventura’s response to the rapper was read in court, highlighting the damage inflicted during the incident:
“I have a black eye and a fat lip. You are sick to think it’s okay what you’ve done.”
These messages offer a window into the tumultuous relationship between Combs and Ventura, who were together from 2007 to 2018. While their relationship ended years ago, the scars left behind—both physical and emotional—appear to be far from healed.
Earlier this year, surveillance footage of the 2016 incident was made public, prompting a public apology from Combs in an Instagram video posted in May. In the emotional video, he expressed deep regret:
“It’s so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life… I was f**ked up. I mean I hit rock bottom but I make no excuses. My behavior on that video is inexcusable. … I went and I sought out professional help, going to therapy, going to rehab. I had to ask God for his mercy and grace. I’m so sorry, but I’m committed to be a better man.”
Despite this admission, Diddy’s legal troubles have continued to escalate. Ventura filed a lawsuit against Combs in late 2023, alleging years of physical and sexual abuse. While they quickly reached a settlement, additional claims of sexual assault have emerged, leading to an ongoing federal investigation. Diddy now faces charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation for the purpose of prostitution.
Federal agents have already raided his homes in Miami and Los Angeles as part of the investigation, and Combs is currently being held at MDC Brooklyn. He faces three felony counts, which could result in serious consequences for the rap icon if convicted.
As the case continues, it has sparked conversations around the broader issue of domestic violence and sexual abuse within relationships. Combs’ public image, once that of a celebrated music icon, is now under intense scrutiny as the details of his alleged abuses come to light.
