Ryan Reynolds Responds to Martha Stewart’s Claim He’s ‘Not So Funny’ with a Playful Jab

Reynolds Fires Back with Humor After Stewart’s Surprising Critique of His Real-Life Wit

Hollywood’s Favorite Neighborly Feud Takes a Humorous Turn

Ryan Reynolds, known for his sharp wit and comedic roles, found himself on the receiving end of Martha Stewart’s less-than-enthusiastic review of his humor. During a recent appearance on the Rent Free game show by Bilt Rewards, Stewart voiced her opinion that while Reynolds may be funny on screen, in real life, he falls a bit short. “He’s not so funny in real life,” she quipped, adding, “He’s very serious.”

Never one to shy away from a chance to playfully spar, Reynolds responded with his trademark humor — and a bit of tongue-in-cheek self-deprecation. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, “I’d disagree with her. But I tried that once. The woman is unexpectedly spry. She really closed the gap after a mile or so.” While the meaning behind his remark wasn’t entirely clear, it hinted at the idea of Stewart unexpectedly chasing him down, playing on her age and their friendly rivalry.

Stewart didn’t stop at her first critique. She expanded, attributing his popular appeal to his “funny mannerisms” in movies, but pointed out he isn’t necessarily a comedian in his daily interactions. “He’s a good actor,” she conceded. “He can act funny, but he isn’t funny. Maybe he can get to be funny again.” When asked which celebrities she would enjoy spending time with, Stewart listed George Clooney, Taylor Swift, Brad Pitt, and her friend Snoop Dogg, notably excluding Reynolds.

The lighthearted banter between Stewart and Reynolds comes as the two stars navigate a unique neighborly bond. They both own properties in Bedford, New York, and Stewart even hinted that her comments might cause some neighborly friction: “I’m going to get in trouble,” she laughed.

Their exchange adds to the amusing clash of personalities between Hollywood’s resident deadpan jokester and the always-composed lifestyle mogul. It seems unlikely this friendly ribbing will die down anytime soon — nor would fans want it to. Reynolds’ response may not have been his funniest line, but in the spirit of Stewart’s critique, he may just be leaning into the “serious” image she has cast upon him.

The duo’s lighthearted feud is just the latest addition to Stewart’s candid takes. Recently, she shared her mixed feelings about her own Netflix documentary, Martha, calling some scenes “shocking” and “unnecessary.” Reflecting on her brief prison stint in the 2000s, she claimed it was merely a “vacation” from her otherwise full life. Ever unapologetic, Stewart continues to be as outspoken as she is accomplished — and even Reynolds might have to agree with her on that.
